Training Offerings:

Learn more about our current training offerings! Because of the on-going pandemic, we are currently only offering our trainings in webinar format. Webinars can be delivered individually or as a series and units can be combined to create webinars of varying lengths. All trainings are customizable to best serve different teams.

  • Health Literacy

    CHN is dedicated to improving the health literacy of organizations across the tri-state area. Since 2008, we’ve been committed to the integration of health literacy principles at all levels of our organization to improve patient outcomes. CHN provides trainings to support your organization in becoming more health literate. We offer a standing 90-minute webinar that covers the following topics:

    The Health Literacy Disconnect:

    Define health literacy, the scope of the health literacy problem and how it affects patients

    Health Literate Materials:

    Identify the components of a health literate material and build skills for developing materials to use with patients. Check out our guide on how to identify health literate materials here.

    Plain Language:

    Identify the importance of plain language and practice using plain language in the healthcare setting.

    The Teach Back Method:

    Describe the teach back method, observe it in use, and practice facilitating the teach back method.

  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Healthcare

    In this course, you will learn about how to cultivate an environment of inclusion by examining the following the topics:

    Respecting Differences and Examining Privilege:

    Identify how our diverse identities impact our perceptions of and interactions with others.

    Unconscious Bias and Inclusion:

    Explore unconscious bias and strategies for managing bias, both when interacting with patients and colleagues.

    Identifying Health Disparities:

    Examine how diversity and culture intersect with health disparities and can result in barriers to care for patients.

  • De-Escalation

    Though we cannot predict when a person’s behavior may escalate in a clinical setting, we can create a culture where all employees are equipped with the tools to respond safely. In this course, you will learn about de-escalation topics and strategies, including:

    Defining De-Escalation:

    Discuss crisis management and the importance of de-escalation in the healthcare setting.

    Stages of Behavior:

    Understand stages of escalation and response behaviors and brainstorm the best ways to address each stage.

    Understanding Behavior:

    Identify physical and emotional responses to crisis, and review techniques for overcoming bias during crisis.

    De-escalation Tools:

    Practice using de-escalation tools in a variety of healthcare settings.

  • Management Training Series

    We offer our management training series “a la carte” style. You can choose different units that best suit your team and combine them for either a single webinar or a series. We can also recommend training sets that complement each other. Topics include:

    Emotional Intelligence and Personality Styles:

    Identify how to accurately perceive and manage your personality style and effectively engage with the personality style of others.

    Feedback:

    Examine some of the common pitfalls to providing both praise and criticism, and practice providing feedback clearly, consistently and effectively.

    Time and Attention Management:

    Examine strategies for time and attention management and discuss the benefits of managing attention rather than time.

    Motivation and Autonomy:

    Articulate the factors and environments that facilitate motivation and autonomy. Strategize effective delegation and avoidance of micro-management.

    Leading in Times of Crisis:

    Examine strategies for leading in times of crisis, including tips for promoting self-care, creating a supportive environment, and problem solving.

    Communication:

    Review techniques for conveying and receiving information and give you the opportunity to examine and practice some these skill sets.

    Managing Conflict:

    Practice managing conflict through sample scenarios and discussions for how to address various forms of conflict that can arise in the workplace.

    Effective Delegation:

    Strategize how to support staff autonomy through effective delegation and avoidance of micro-management through proactivity and the avoidance of pitfalls.

    Mastery and Meaning:

    Outline best practices for facilitating employee motivation through achieving mastery and creating meaning and helping your team reach their full potential.
