Patient & Staff Testimonials

Ileana M. Serrano, MD, FAAP

I love my job! I love treating our interesting and diverse patients and helping them to stay healthy. I tell everyone how lucky I feel to work for an organization with such a great mission and which consistently strives to bring our patients the most up to date, compassionate, and culturally competent care. In the seven years (and counting!) I’ve been here, CHN has enabled me to grow both as a physician and as an administrator. CHN keeps getting better and better, with innovative thinkers at the helm, our potential is unlimited. – Associate Medical Director, Helen B. Atkinson Health Center

I am honored to be a staff member at CHN for 22 years now, because I still feel inspired by the level of dedication professionalism and joy that people bring to the job. This is not only displayed by my staff, but also by the people who supervise me, the people in the health centers, as well as the people in the field. It’s really a great place to work due to the fact that you know you are making a difference. Yet you are part of a team and you feel supported and respected for the wisdom, skill, hard work and positive spirit you bring to the agency. – Education and Outreach Coordinator

CHN has been an important part of my growth for over 12 years, both personally, and professionally. I have learned so much at CHN, and have met some pretty amazing people here, some who have been, and are, mentors and friends. It is a great place to work, learn and grow, and it’s also a great representation of the communities we serve and where many of us come from. I am proud to say that I am part of CHN, its culture, its mission, vision and values. – Human Resources Manager

I love the Wellness Program, the classes are wonderful. The instructors are patient and awesome, and the groups run well and smooth. When I’m in class, I feel relaxed and not tense. The Wellness Program has already helped me get more energy. I have been sleeping better, I have a reduced appetite, and I feel less anxious. It’s a great incentive to change the way you go about day to day activities. The classes are great for your health, and your day is better with a Wellness class! – Patient since 2007

Community Healthcare Network has always been there when I needed them. I always get a call checking in on me and asking how I’m doing. Whatever I need help with, they help me with—housing, counseling, referrals, you name it. If I have a doctor’s appointment, they call me up to remind me. They call me up to make sure I take my medicine the right way at the right time.

I learned how to talk to doctors, but also how to ask the doctors the right questions. My doctor—she does everything for me. I think I have the best doctor there!

When I first started going to CHN, I realized there was a lot of stuff I didn’t know that I needed to know. They‘ve helped me in a lot of ways. They’ve helped me to help myself and because of that I am able to educate my kids.

Change can be a powerful thing. In my case I would describe change as; a journey. A journey which has allowed me to take the necessary steps on getting my health on track.

As a 28 year old female who suffers from obesity and diabetes, I can admit it is mentally a struggle, but I learned if I changed my eating habits and exercise at least 30 minutes a day it’s a strong possibility I can get rid of this horrible disease. Overall, I have lost 52 pounds. Since I have lost the weight mention, my HDL (Good Cholesterol), LDL (Bad Cholesterol) and My AC1(Glucose) test numbers have improved a lot.

Life is what you make it. This journey has strengthen me in ways you can’t imagine. I remember being, so discouraged. My nutritionist Sars here at Helen B. has been a big support in my journey and I wanna thank her. Sometimes, I felt like giving up and she gave me hope. When people see your determine to reach a goal and see your progress, change starts to surround you.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean your food is bland. Eating healthy allows you to be creative, open minded to trying different fruits, vegetables etc…

My journey has inspired others!

Special Thanks to Sara &
Dr. Mc Giggins for their guidance.
