Serving the People of Our Community

Community Healthcare Network reaches over 75,000 individuals each year in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Our health centers serve neighborhoods that are incredibly diverse. More than 96% of CHN’s patients are people of color, with 46% identifying as African-American/Caribbean, 49% as Hispanic, and 1% as Asian-American.  A large number of our patients are immigrants and the working poor. Approximately 29% of CHN’s patients are best served in a language other than English. Over a third of CHN’s patients are uninsured and over 75% have incomes below the federal poverty level.

Patients receive care at CHN regardless of immigration status, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, or ability to pay.

CHN has a team of over 350 staff including medical providers, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, health educators, case managers, counselors, as well as professional, administrative, and support staff. CHN has a long history of actively recruiting staff members that reflect the communities we serve. Employing staff that are members of the community they serve helps bridge the gap between patients and professional providers, encouraging an environment of trust and comfort.

CHN’s commitment to providing culturally and linguistically sensitive services follows the National Standards for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services in Health Care (CLAS). Our staff reflect the cultural diversity of the agency’s client base. Eighty-seven percent of employees are people of color: 48% are African-American, 32% Hispanic, and 7% Asian. Most employees live directly within the communities served.

CHN’s employees understand the backgrounds and concerns of patients and can offer appropriate and high quality care.
